How We Research
Every guide on Microwave Doctor starts with one question: will this product work in your kitchen and for the way you cook? For an over-the-range microwave, that means checking cabinet fit, ventilation, electrical needs and the features you will use.
Here is how we answer it.
1. We start with the kitchen and the job
A microwave that does not fit the cabinet opening is the wrong choice. A range hood with the wrong venting setup may not suit the kitchen.
We check dimensions, capacity, clearance, mounting and power requirements, venting options and what comes in the box. For cookware, storage containers and countertop appliances, we look at usable size, materials, care instructions and how they fit everyday cooking.
2. We compare specs and features
We look at the details makers list: cooking power, capacity, sensor modes, fan speed and airflow, lighting, controls and installation requirements. For air fryers, toaster ovens and rice cookers, we compare capacity, cooking modes and included accessories; for hoods, filters and ventilation options matter.
Makers describe their products in their own words, so we name the brand for every claim. We also note the warranty terms the maker lists.
3. We look at buyer feedback
We read what buyers report after using a product. We look for patterns, like difficult installation, noisy fans, weak lighting, uneven cooking, hard-to-clean surfaces or accessories that do not fit as expected.
One angry review doesn't sink a product. A pattern does.
4. We score each product
Our score weighs fit, specifications, features and buyer feedback against what you're shopping for. A compact appliance may suit one kitchen, while another reader may need more capacity or a different installation setup.
Scores spread out on purpose. A 10 is rare.
5. We keep pages up to date
Products change, and some disappear from stores. Makers sell close models under similar names, so we check each model name, listed specifications and what comes in the box, and we only link new units.
We skip unknown brands with no track record and any product with a known recall. When we update a guide, the "Updated on" date at the top changes with it.
What our picks are not
Our picks are research, not hands-on tests. We don't claim to have used every product we cover.
For installation, follow the manufacturer's instructions and check local electrical and ventilation requirements. If the work is beyond your experience, use a qualified installer.
